Bradford began his career in Dallas, playing with Cedar Walton and David Newman. In 1953, he moved to LA where he played with Ornette Coleman and Eric Dolphy. He became Don Cherry's replacement with Ornette in 1961-1963 and recorded with them in 1971. After moving to LA, Bradford worked with clarinetist John Carter and his own Mo'tet, John Stevens' Freebop, David Murray Octet, & Charlie Haden
